I've been using open source software for almost twenty years, and contributing to it for almost as long. I've been using Python since 1.5, and am the original lead developer of distutils, optparse, and textwrap in the standard library. I'm happy to report that one of those modules is neither deprecated nor widely loathed. More recently, I've been an occasional contributor to Mercurial.
